[SOLVED] HELPPP! CPU Cooling issue with i7 9700k

(Pleb here so sorry if you all cringe at how this is all worded)

Having a problem cooling my cpu, Its an i7 9700k

Other specs:

Case NZXT H500

16gb Ram

Not sure about mother board but I doubt its anything to do with that

Corsair 450W VS series power supply

PCS Frostflow 120 series AIO cooler



Huge fps drops after a short time, in BIOS it says it idling at 90c (yikes)

I'm not really techy enough to know what is poor quality in my specs and what I need to change to cool it sufficiently.



I have a feeling its the AIO cooler itself that is either faulty or just poor quality and needs an upgrade but I not confident enough to say with my lacking knowledge.



Wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what i need to replace to get everything working at a decent temp so I dont damage the cpu.

Either the pump isn't working or the install isn't proper. It's pretty simple thermal dynamics; if a cooler is installed proper and working, it'll cool the CPU.

So should I just remove it and buy another one and install that correctly? It was premade at pc specialist (looks like they arent that special)
I was thinking of getting a Noctua NH D15 instead since a few people said that would be better than an average AIO cooler like the one I have?

I would definitely recommend the Noctua, which is kind of the gold standard of top-tier air coolers. Until you get to the higher-end AIOs of at least 240mm, air coolers are preferable on all counts. Also safer and more dependable (and I say this as someone who uses a Corsair H100i).

I have same cpu but air cooled with stock style cooler and I get to 83 max peak while gaming. Reset it and make sure you tighten down the cooler screws in the order the manual sayswith new thermal paste

I had the NZXT H500 with i7 9700f and cooler master hyper tx3 evo and if i remember my max CPU temps where 76c?

Now have the MC H500 mesh with Noctua NH D15. Running between 65-69c on CPU.

So from my experience with 9700f and NZXT H500 i would say that it might be your cooler thats the problem.

NNoctua D15 are hugh and check theyr site to see if they fit you MB and Case before buying

I own the same type of CPU.
My cooler is: Corsair H45 (it’s pretty cheap), but I never had issues with it.
I also have 2x 140mm case fans to bring air in, and 1x 120mm case fan that pulls air out.

I think you’ve been unlucky when buying your cooler, or maybe it isn’t installed properly.
I’d try reinstalling it. But if the problem still persists, I’d buy another one.

Also, I observed that your PSU is kind of weak: 450W.
Performance losses might have something to do with that too.

So, you chose a 120mm AIO to cool one the the hottest i7's?

Why?

It would be fine at idle (if it were working, sounds like an airlock), but at loads, doubtful it would ever do anything well to cool that CPU.

PSU would not cause CPU thermal issues, especially at idle. If anything, under loads, the PSU would cause the system to crash due to instability or lack of adequate power.
