Tonight I got my new Abit IS7 board and I installed the video card and everything seems fine with the voltages.. there is one issue though. This has been happening for about the last month now.. my Video card is making some really not so nice noises due to the fan on the card. The fan is slowing down very very slow, and then speeds up really quick and makes some nasty noise. Even when the fan is running at it's slow speed it has become very very loud and just doesn't sound healthy at all. Most the time the fan is hardly spinning fast at all and I can feel that the Blue heatsink is way hot to the touch... so I think my Fan is defective on my video card.. will this hurt my video card or any other components in my system?

Also, I cleaned out the fan on the video card and this didn't do anything, the fan still runs very very slowly and it makes some really nasty noises.. I am afraid that it is going to ruin the video card or even worse some other components in my new system.. what can I do about this? Can Hercules send me a new fan or something? I think it's still under warranty.. 3 year warranty right?

Is there a program that you guys have that can read the heat and the rpm of the fan and chip on the video card? I would like to see what mine is at compared to what it should be..

I need help ASAP.. thank you.

I am afraid to run my system for that long and don't know whether it matters or not.. I just don't want to hurt any of the components on my NEW system.. you can see my specs below in my signature.
Please help....

NEW SYSTEM:
P4 2.8c (800fsb), Abit IS7, Kingston HyperX PC3500 (2 x 512mb), IBM Deskstar (60 gig @ 7200rpm)
OLDER SYSTEM:
P3 850mhz (100fsb), Asus CUV4X, 620mb Micron PC133, WD 40gig 7200rpm

Yes, it could matter actually, and you could burn up your card if you left it on too long.
First I would call Hercules and see what they can or will do for ya.
If they send you a new fan (or even a new card!) then thats great.

If not, order a Crystal Orb online, you can find em for about 10 bux. Theyre actually better than the stock fan youve got on there now.

Problem solved.

Ask them for a new fan. If they won't do that, attach a standard 40mm fan. This of course will add thickness to your card and partly block the next slot under it, but you should leave that slot empty for card cooling anyway.

Standard 40mm ball bearing fans last longer, put out more air, and run quiter than VGA fans. This is because they are designed for quality, rather than thinness.

I would just take a case fan and angle it to blow directly onto your card.. and yes... a crystal orb is 7 dollars on newegg.com i would strong suggest this.

Okay but for right now.. what damage could I do.. only damage to the video card itself.. or damage to all the other components.. that's my main concern..? I was going to run through some benchmarks overnight but maybe I shouldn't now.. lol

I managed to blow one of my 80mm case fans tonight too.. the one in the front.. I guess the intake fan.. what are the BEST case fans to go with.. I will probably get some new case fans while I am at it too..
right now I have a case fan spot in the front for 1 80mm, 2 x 80mm in the back for exhaust.. and that's it.. is this good enough cooling for my new p4 system?

Yes, yes, yes, and yes.

Heh, I wouldnt recommend running any benchmarks or leaving your computer on overnight untill you get a new fan on ur vid card.
Get any case fan dude, it really dont matta!
Seriously I got some awesome case fans for 1.95 a piece i think from www.bestbyte.net
80mm, standard rpms and cfm for a case fan (~32), they blow lots of air and are really quiet, and supposedly will last as long as any other fan.

ack, my computer is so quiet I can hear myself breathe... probably will change when the 9700 rolls in.

If you got that cash, and are a brand-loyal kinda guy, then go ahead and get Panaflow or Pabst. Pabst fans are some of the biggest rip-offs i have EVER seen!!!

The fans I got for about 2 dollars a piece from www.bestbyte.net are "Top Motor" fans (thats the brand).
They are 80mm, standard RPM, and blow 32.4cfm, and are virtually silent.

Personally I think its extremely stupid to buy pabst or other extremely overpriced fans, as its 100% brand loyalty and buying into marketing.
Ive seen some case fans for THIRTY DOLLARS!!! Thats INSANE!
I would pay $15 dollars for a Vantec Tornado, but I can assure you thats the most expensive fan I will buy!

And now I might not even do that, because Sunon has come out with a fan that has the exact same specs as the Vantec, and it costs 6 bux off directron.com!

I had my doubts about these 2 dollar fans, but I can assure you they are top notch.

You can't assume something sucks solely because of the price.

All my Top Motor fans are worn out. All my Panaflow fans still work great. And all my Panaflow fans were free, removed from used AT power supplies.

You can find Panaflows for around $3 if you look hard enough. They probably last around 5 times longer than a Top Motor fan. Mine are nearly 10 years old!

Okay I talked to Hercules and I don't have warranty anymore on my card so basically I will just buy a fan. They told me however that not all fans line up the right way on the board. So I am curious.. does anybody here know for fact if the Thermal Crystal Orb will line up correctly with all the clips and stuff on the Hercules 3D Prophet II GTS video card?

If I can't find something to line up with the clips correctly Hercules said to use Thermal Paste to stick it on there.. but I don't see how this would work.. I meamn the fan mounts upside down.. (such that when the card is mounted, the fan is on the bottom side of the card), so I would think that over a little time gravity would pull the darm fan out of the heatsink completely... oh what a mess that would be..

So I need to know what EXACT fan model, etc. would fit in my video card the right way with clips lined up and everything? Although I didn't really know what them meant about clips.. when I took the stock fan off of the video card last night to clean it, there were 4 small screws in each corner that secured the fan to the heatsink. Not sure what they mean with clips..?
