I've just gotten a Hercules 3D Prophet 9800 Pro and wanted to see how it could handle the 3DMark benchmarks.
The results were much lower than I had expected from reading the tests here at Tom's.
3DMark, all settings default, all tests.
3DMark 2001 Score: 5929
3DMark 2003 Score: 4180
Doesn't that sound a bit low?

Graphics settings:
AA & AF: Application preference
Texture & Mipmap: High Quality
VSync: On
Truform: Off
My system is:
AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2100+ 1.7 GHz
512 MB RAM
Hercules 3D Prophet 9800Pro
Soltek SL-75DRV5 Mainboard
WinXP Pro
DirectX 9.0b
Latest AGP drivers, Hercules 3.7 drivers
AGP Aperture: 128

The 3Dmark 2001 score should by more than twice as high. The 3Dmark 2003 scre looks about right though.

My OS features preemptive multitasking, a fully interactive command line, & support for 640K of RAM!

Turn Vsync OFF!
Turn Texture and Mipmap to: PERFORMANCE

That will increase your bungholio marks.

And based on what you showed 3dmk01 is the LOW one, and 3dmk03 is just a little low (but looks normal considering your settings).

Looks more like a system/user issue than a graphics card issue.

Turning VSync off really helped the score...

I have tried different settings in the control panel and these are my results in 3DMark 2001:

Slider set to Optimal Performance, AA & AF: Application Preference, no VSync: Score 10784

Texture & mipmap: MAX, AA & AF: Application Preference, no VSync: Score 10451

Texture & mipmap: MAX, AA: 4X, AF: 16X, no VSync: Score 10052

No Grape! The texture settings should be set to max QUALITY! This is how I always benchmark and is usually how toms benchmarks unless otherwise noted.

AA/AF off, vsync off, mipmap settings max! From min to max it dosn't affect performance a whole lot anyways.
My 19000, 6650 (highest 01,03) scores (and any fps/scores i give) have always been attained with the texture sliders set to max.

Yeah, but I'm just telling him how to raise his bungholio marks, not how to compare them. Anyone worrying about their bungholiomarks without fiddling on their own, really isn't looking to 'test' their system IMHO.

Anywhoo, I agree, if it were a test to be published and not simply VIAGRAmarks, then you'd want to set the sliders to quality, however there are ALOT of reviewers who do both.

Oh well, people need to set the sliders all over the place and observe the differences.

WS, BTW, have you tried the shader effects yet? I used the B&W stylized on the XIII demo and it looks AWESOME, like a beer ad, but with violence. Hey Mabel, BLACK LABEL, Bang!

I'm dissapointed sketch is only availible in OGL (at least for me), I'd love to try a few DX games like that. The effects look like crap on Morrowind (IMO) , but then again it's realy better realistic, and the effects really detract from the game.

Isn't Bungholio marks what they used to benchmark the "Bitchin' Fast 3D" card?

My OS features preemptive multitasking, a fully interactive command line, & support for 640K of RAM!

Yepper, and it's my favorite reference point. I always find it annoying when people ask 'why ain't I gettin' me dem 3Dmarks' and 'Help me lenghten my member, err increase my scores'.

For the uninitiated, the origin of BungholioMarks;

Well, thanks for your help, I haven't managed to get it higher than 10K even with all sliders down and AA & AF to 2X.

I'm not really trying to get as high a score as possible, I just want to know what settings are the best for this card since I don't know much about them...

Best settings for the card are Quality (not High Quality) and application preference. In fact Vsync MAY give you better visuals in SOME games. You will have to play with the settings .
If you get framedrops in games just play with your settings. Performance usully doesn't offer much improvement, but does cost you some IQ. AA/AF will sometimes have next to no impact on your FPS (especially in older games) yet it will make the games look MUCH better.

The main thing is to experiment. Those types of tweaks won't kill your card, so learn as you go.

Your welcome, but I think Ape & Willamette were a MUCH greater help this time around.

My OS features preemptive multitasking, a fully interactive command line, & support for 640K of RAM!

Holy crap yes!
I agree I wish all the effects were available for D3D too, luckily you can run ut2k3 in OGL:) I can't wait for more effects.

I've played sof2 (multiplayer) with the Sketch effect on... AWESOME!!! And the green ASCII. I had to jack the res up to 1600x1200 for the ASCII to look decent (or be playable). But at that res, it was pretty cool. The text should still be smaller though.
UT2k3 stylized-black and white.. awesome.
Inverted colors is cool too.

Trippy stuff! And 1337, very 1337.
