Check this out. Wow DX9.0 seems to add negligable visual quality to the scene. Oh well the over hyper HDRL over brightness wount be a issue for me on my FX, wow missing out  .

HDRL is not in the HL benchmark levels

aswell as some other directX 9 features

acording to valve they aint in because they are still perfecting these features

I didn't see barely any difference in those pics except brightness. Did you check out that video Valve released showing HDR?

Bloody beautiful I say!

I found the DX9.0 stuff to be over bright and unrealistic... Thats my personal take on the images. That was source engine apparently not the benchmark so the overbrightness is pretty ovious in the DX9.0 shot.

I did see the video it was over bright IMO most of the time those effects done in say DX8.0 8.1 stuff bother me since its more of a glare than anything. Especially in Unreal 2, when yer in yer ship that glare on the window in the doors is frikken annoying.

At this point though I dont have much of a qualm with the fact ill probably have to run it in DX8.1 since the visual effects arent that great IMO. But who knows maybe in a real environment it might be more suble and less glareing. But as I said Ive seen the demo for HL HDRL it was far too glarey and thats my stance on the subject.

the directx 9.0 mode seems to show sharper and brighter image than that of the DX8.0 & 8.1, from my perception.

i could be wrong but the glaring is probably because it was a tech demo so they wanted to show the most glaring (pun intended :p) example of the effect
