Hertz Speaker Problem

Hi there,

As of recently I have noticed there is a shaking noise and not a proper sound coming from the rear left speaker on the rear deck so I popped off the cover and took a look

It seems that whenever I push down the cone slightly or hold the wire from two opposite ends (visible in the pic) - the shaking noise stops and sound comes out of the speaker properly.

I am hoping that this could either be repaired easily or covered by hertz warranty -what do you guys think?

The problem with 6X9's or 7X10's mounted on a rear shelf, is they become really susceptible to dirt and dust getting caught around the voice coil. (the center of the main cone which has the post for the tweeter going through it) This can cause a rattling sound which resonates through the cone. Be careful holding the cone in because it could damage the coil. Best bet is to take the speakers out and see if you can blow any dirt or grit out from the voice coil collar. Use compressed air if you can, but be careful not to blow too hard on the cone and the components!
As for the warranty, that is up to you, but if there IS dirt in the voice coil, it probably wont be covered.

Or you over drove the speaker and the voice coil has been damaged.
I suspect that this won't be covered by the warranty since it's not considered an original defect but misuse. Worth a try though. Some makers will replace a damaged speaker once.
