My hitachi He10 SATA drive won't spin up? I noticed a new feature called power disable is this why it's not working?

Solution
Don't mention it. This shouldn't be something you can modify. It explains the different pins, so I doubt you can do anything about it. If the HDD is in good condition, it could be a bit more power hungry than usual, but you might be able to confirm that by connecting it to a different computer. Otherwise it's getting in touch with the customer support since there's not a lot you can do with an inactive drive.
Hey there!

Where have you noticed this feature. I think the drive should work straight out of the box, however if there's something you need to in order to get it to power up (which I doubt), you should address that issue with the HDD manufacturer's customer support.

I'd recommend that you make sure that you have properly seated all the cables, to the drive, the motherboard and the PSU. If that doesn't help, try the drive with a different computer if possible, to see if the same thing happens. If you don't have that options, give it a go with a different SATA port and different cables. If you still can't get it to work, perhaps it would be best to try and RMA it.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.

Thanks for the tips Boogieman_WD!

In the He10 product manual at www.hgst.com, Section 2 General features calls out SATA Power Disable and Section 6.1.2 Signal Definition says pin 3 of the power connector interface is now assigning to the power disable control pin to be inactive HDD when P3 drives High or open.

Is there a way to disable this behavior through the interface?

Thanks again!
