Hello all, I;m wondering whether a low profile hd radeon 5570 would work with a 300W psu. Right now im stuck with a weak 250W psu and i found a 300W psu that will fit my computer's slim case. I'm planning on buying these immediately and i've heard countless miracle stories of 5570s working with 250W psus just fine, so all i really need is some verification so i wont blow my new psu up. Also here's the links to the products im buying:

Here's the psu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151090

And the 5570: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102874

Or this one?: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161380

The 5570 requires a 400w power supply minimum.

This is a 350w psu and the highest one that Newegg has , I think that there is a 400w psu for the slimline Pc. Here it is;

SAPPHIRE 100293L Radeon HD 5570 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card
I like this card that you selected , it has a fan on the heatsink for better cooling.

The 5570 requires a 400w power supply minimum.
Actually it requires much less, at full load it doesn't draw more than 50-60W.
Thats what makes it a popular low profile card.

Thanks for the links now i'm definitely reconsidering on buying one of these.

Thanks for the help too, i really appreciate it!

Btw do you know your mobo pcie version ?
I'm almost positive that since its an older pc, that it's a 2.0 express, but i know that almost everything on the pcie versions are cross compatible.

Get the 350w and a HD6670 ?
I thought about it for a bit, but realized that my 4 year old computer would bottleneck the card so i gave up on the idea, but i know the 5570 would work just fine.

As long as the rest of your system doesn't use too much power a 5570 is fine with that PSU. The reason a 400W unit is recommended is to compensate for crappy PSU units with false rating and to account for using more powerful components like multiple drives and a 125W CPU, which is unlikely in a slim line.

I know that the card doesn't use 400w but it does require you to have in your Pc a minimum 400w psu and that is according to the detailed specifications of the card , it's requiring that so you have enough power for the card and the other components in the Pc so that you are not crashing the Pc for lack of power. Some psu manufacturers make really good power supplies and you can run a 300w because they make the psu to run at a higher standard and you can draw 300w or more because the quality is so good. Others make cheap quality and you have nothing but trouble with them , I like to get a psu that is much higher than what I need so there is plenty of room for spare power since I never know what I am going to add to my Pc.

Alright so the situation is a 5570 at peak load uses between 196W and 211W. This leaves very little power for your processor and other peripherals.

I'm 100% positive the 5570 i want does not come close to drawing that much power, are you talking about the full sized card perhaps?

it has no external power connectors therefore it is IMPOSSIBLE for it to use more than the 75W it can draw through the slot, id think a 300w unit would be enough if it is from a reputable brand, what make is your psu?

Thats the total system draw. My gtx 560 ti SOC uses less than 200w under load !

I never thought about getting a 6670 since i had a lame psu, but now im 90% sure im getting it along with the new psu, if we're talking about the low profile 6670 then yes i will get it for sure with the 350W psu. A big Thank You to all who helped me pick the right psu and gpu!!! 😀

Did we accomplish the pcie version yet ?

Because this is not true ;

I would think because it's an older pc it might be 1.0 and than some 2.1 cards don't always work with it.

Maybe you did tell your mobo or pcmodel allready, it's a to long thread . . .

Afraid you might be right.

Well i'm not going to advice the 6670 than, i'm not sure it will work than.

It might work if your bios is up to date but i don't know enough about that to be sure.

Maybe someone else on the forum knows, or you can google yourself to see if anyone has a 2.1 card running on this machine.
