I would suggest that you be unique. There are literally thousands of gaming youtube channels out there, and most of them are mind-numbingly boring lets-plays.

There are a few kinds of videos. 'Gateway videos', which are original videos designed to get viewers. not lets plays, something unique. Then once a channel has lots (10,000+) subscribers, it can begin to make the more boring 'income videos' which are easy videos to make such as lets plays, which are designed to bring in income and are quite boring.
Finally there are subscriber videos which are designed to bring people to subscribe. These are usually series, so the viewer wants to see the next few instalments of the series.

Anyway yes, I suggest you focus on gateway videos until you get lucky, and maybe make ONE series until you begin to take off.
