Hi, I have a External USB HDD on like 300 GB which has stoped working

Like the Title says, I have an HDD only for storage that i sidnt have any thing on when it stopped working 2 days after
i`ve bought it. The blue lights show on it when i pop the USB in but nothing more happens.

Does it show up in Windows disk management? Can you assign it a drive letter? Can you reformat it, since there is no data on it yet?

Also, you should check to see that you do not have the USB read only protection of Windows enabled, it is a single registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies The value 0 = not protected, 1 = read only.
 
have you got a backup copy of your data? please tell me you do

perhaps the caddy is dead (open it up remove the actual hdd from the shell use it direct if you have a pc)

does it show up in device manager?

LOL. Have you seen many posts where folks actually do have backup of their data? :pfff:
