based on what have and can reuse, I'd get a ryzen 5, a motherboard and some ram. the go buy an ssd for your OS at the very least you should be good to go go. shouldn't have any problem getting that within your budget of 500 bucks. the 1050ti is still a good GPU for 1080p gaming, yet if you decide to upgrade your GPU in the future to say something that will push 1440p or 4k, the ryzen 5 will handle it. get fast ram and do yourself a favor go with 16gb if possible and you'll be chewing through AAA games in no time

Would upgrading the PSU be as important or can I just not touch the 500w I have? I'm most likely not going to upgrade until couple years later

Hmm, I kinda prefer not selling anything just so I can have some backup parts if anything happens.
