Since it sort of works if you press hard or click a lot. It sounds like you need a new mouse.

Have you tried another mouse?

VERY likely, as above, that the tiny switch inside your mouse for the left-click is worn out. Although it might be possible to find a replacement and repair that mouse IF you have lots of skill, the simplest solution is a new mouse.
