Hi need opinions!

Im getting in the beginning of september a new machine!

Q6700
P5E Deluxe
HDT-s1283
Corsair TX 750W
OCZ Dominator or equivalent
Termaltake armor MX
Any way i really want to oc it as high as i can... With the 10 multi will it be better than the Q6600? Please tell me how far i can go! Ill have an OC expert friend help me out!

get the q6600 i twill over clock to the same max then the q6700 because its basically the same chip. or change it to 9xxx quad core series because by then there might be a price drop.
Also ill definitely plus one on that power supply and heat sink and idk if you are planning on getting a new graphics card but if you do get the 4850. And if you aren't ever planning on crossfiring i don't see why you would need the x48 chipset or why you would need such a high watt power supply so i am assuming you are going to crossfire

But the Q6700 has 10X multi... Its supposed to clock higher no?

^The only difference is that you will need a lower FSB to get to the same clock on the Q6700 than on the Q6600.

Q6600= 9x
Q6700= 10x

so to get to 3.6Ghz:

Q6600= 9x 400FSB
Q6700= 10x 360FSB

Both OC about the same.

wait... i always thought the q6700 had higher overclocking potential..you know.. because it had a higher multi, therefore, you can reach a higher overall clock?

OC'ing a Quad to 4,0ghz is insanity, you'll need liquid cooling atleast to manage that,

NO you cant get 4ghz out of that thing, it's useless and way too much.
These things run fine at their stock settings , Q6600 @ 2,4 and if you want more firepower you can overclock it to 3,0 easily, without much hassle.

and 3,2ghz respectivily with some voltage boosting.

if you really want to overclock so much you're better off buying an E8400 and get it to 4,0ghz easily. Quads have less overclocking room then dual cores.

How can that be? With Q6600 people get to 3.6GHZ on air so with the Q6700 its supposed to be a lot more...

^Although the Q6700 has a higher multi both are on the same Kentsfield core. There for both OC about the same. 4Ghz on a Quad is virtually impossible without liquid cooling. Both the Q6600 and the Q6700 would OC the same amount (3.2-3.6Ghz)

^Probably not with out Water cooling or LN2 and/or voltage above 1.55v.

How much voltage can you have without destroying your CPU? is 1.5 ok?

1.5v is still ABSOLUTE voltage you should use. It is the point where physical damage to the CPU happens. For 45nm CPUs it is 1.45v.

So what is the stock voltage? I need the cpu for another 3-5 years... It need it to last... Also how high can i go with this rig without inflicting serious damage?
