Hi, Please help me - Questions about PSU's - XFX and Corsair

Hi,

I wanted to buy PSU - I decided that I will buy Corsair VS 450W EU version CP-9020049-EU
but it turned out that it's not available to buy at my place so I was quite disappointed with that fact but on the other hand maybe it's good and thanks to that I will pick something better :)

I found something like this :
Corsair Builder Series CX 430W 80+ Bronze CP-9020046-EU ( the question about this one is - is it better or is it as good as Corsair VS 450W EU version CP-9020049-EU ? What are the differences between those two ? Which is better ? Would it be good idea to pick CX 430W 80+ Bronze CP-9020046-EU instead of Corsair VS 450W EU CP-9020049-EU ?

Next thing is - I also found that I can order something like this :
Corsair VS 450W CP-9020096-EU ( the question is - what is that ? obviously it is VS450 but a different version. What are the differences between Corsair VS 450W EU version CP-9020049-EU and Corsair VS 450W CP-9020096-EU ? Which is better ?

I also heard from one guy that Corsair VS 450W EU version CP-9020049-EU is no longer produced by Corsair - that would be the reason why I can't get it. He said It will be replaced by new version of VS450 - so that I could wait for it about 2 weeks. Is it going to be better ? Something worth waiting ? The same price ? Or is the Corsair VS 450W CP-9020096-EU the new version that he was talking about ?

I can also pick Corsair VS 550W CP-9020050-EU but I heard the fan bearing fails quite fast and it works later loud like a tractor.

Hmm... or... I will throw away all of them.... and go for XFX ATX Core 450W 80+ P1-450S-X2B9. ( is it good version )?

Waiting for some help and info on all that....

Corsair CX/VS series PSUs are in tier/category 3 of the Tier list of PSU. Whereas XFX ATX Core is in Tier 2 Class A. This shows that XFX PSU uses more reliable and good quality components than corsair CX/VS series. Better grab XFX series PSU.

Also keep in mind that EU has imposed certain regulations for power supplies and all PSU manufacturers must follow those new regulations. This could be the very reason that EU series mentioned by you in Corsair is no longer available in stock.

Corsair CX serie is cheap but has bad capacitor too

They are NOT bad capacitors. Just not as good as corsair usually uses. Review sites have pulled full load out of the CX PSUs, with ripple in spec. Lower quality != bad caps.

The XFX core is a good one. I'm not fully up to date on the VS line. Assuming these are all within budget and similar in price I'd just get the XFX core.

Going back to one of my questions... when it comes to Corsair... is that true that a new version of VS450 is coming out ?
Do you have any information on that ? What series number it's going to have ? Is it CP-9020096-EU maybe ?
I would like to hear some information on that CP-9020096-EU if someone knows something. Is it the same thing as CP-9020049-EU ? It is available from 08-08-2014 in just one shop at my place... well not exactly available - it can be ordered... theoretically... so I would like to know what it is.

They are bad quality because they are built for lower temp which mean electrolytic liquid in it will vaporise faster and then you donc have capacitor, you just have a metal cylinder.

It's worth noting that Corsair doesn't make PSUs. The best corsairs (ax series, etc.) are made by seasonic. All XFX are made by seasonic. Some of the Corsairs have a reputation for being sub par (cx series notably.

Corsaire TX V2 are also made by seasonic ! (i wonder which psu brand is a good one ?? XD)

And what temp are they made for? The review I read online today didn't seem low to me. I doubt your case/PSU gets that hot.

Looking at this it seems that the older CP-9020049 lacked 80+ certification, while the newer CP-9020096 has it. They are both made by CWT, 34A/408W units with 3 year warranties. The only difference is the 80+ certification. Neither unit according to that site has been reviewed by a real site. But they should perform the same.

All you have to know is that if a capacitor is designed for low temp like 85C instead of 105C, this mean his shield is thinner and its ability to prevent vaporizing is not as good as is a higher temp designed capacitor.

Think of water. even at normal temperature it vaporize. We simply say it dried. but in fact it is vaporization. the vaporization temperature is the point from where most of the particles have enough energy to change of state from liquid to gas. But even before, some particles have enough energy from the temperature.

So even if the PSU does not get to 80C, capacitor will dry out before a better quality capacitor.

They aren't 85C caps. I'm looking at the V2 model because the OP said he's looking at one which is 80+ bronze, and the V1 model that SR-71 linked from JG says it's not 80+. Again, not the greatest, but they aren't 85C parts, and it did full output. Go read the death of gutless wonders if you want to see bad. It would be better if the Samxon caps aren't in there. But if Corsair is willing to put their name on it it can't be something THAT bad.

Wow, I have to say I'm impressed with amount of answers, I appreciate all of them :)
I think this discussion will be for sure very helpful not only for me but also for many others looking for some information on that topic now and in the future...

Quite a lot of stuff to read and to think about so I will definitely spend some time on that topic...
Will read and go through all the reviews - I must say they are very helpful so thank you all for links to all those sites with great reviews.

Hmm.... so... Corsair CX430 V2 got some 105°C capacitors but not all of them from what I see ? some are 85°C...
When it comes to the XFX Core Edition 450W it got all capacitors 105°C from what I see ?

What would you say about - I'm quoting : " wonky +12V regulation " from site http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story4&reid=224 ?
Is it really something that I should think about or it is not a big deal ?

It's high, but as JG said it's not out of spec. As long as you have a load on the rails then you should be fine. It's odd as he pointed out that the 12V rail is so high, but it not dangerous or anything like that.

As cheaper/lower end units I'm sure all of these have a drawback of some sort. Up to you to decide which is best.

Going back to one of my original questions about Corsair....

For people interested in the future.... gathering all info at the moment... when it comes to Corsair VS450
From what I managed to find out.... I can confirm that Corsair VS450 EU version CP-9020049-EU in no longer produced.
It's succesor is Corsair VS450 CP-9020096-EU ( from what I heard it will be better- some stuff will be improved but no details for now what exactly )

In the link http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page447.htm given by 4745454b there is info that it will get 80+ certification. Thanku you for that info.
I'm curious about what capacitors will be used in this also - 85°C or 105°C.

At my place it will be available in shops around August 20th so I will wait and see what it's gonna be like, maybe wait for some reviews of that PSU.
If someone would know something more about it - maybe found some reviews, it would be nice, so please share.

From what I know the price will be the same - at my place it will be around 48$ so I think it's really good option to think about. It's pretty decent :)

But... I still have in mind XFX ATX Core 450W 80+ P1-450S-X2B9 - it's around 57$ at my place - I think it is also worth it - 5 years warranty (comparing to Corsair's 3 years), better stuff inside including 105°C capacitors.

Will wait... for some more info on that Corsair VS450 CP-9020096-EU
