Hi, I have my old desktop with biostar mother board G31 M7 TE RUNS ON 667 MHZ DDR2 ram. Recently I bought a ddr2 800 mhz ram from amazon. but when I install the new ram on mother board along with the old ram, the machine is not working. only the cpu power light is on. no display on monitor. when I pull the new ram out machine works fine. when i pull the old ram out and try the new ram only the machine does not works. only the cpu light is on. can anyone tell me what is the reason???? is the new ram defective? or there might be solution for this?

Thanks for the photo.

There appears to be a problem with the Hynix memory. Although it seems to be standard unbuffered DDR2 type memory, the label on it states that the memory is SO-DIMM type memory. However, the photo clearly shows that the module is NOT a SO-DIMM style memory. Therefore the label must be incorrect.

As the label is incorrect, then the Hynix DDR2 memory parameters/characteristics are unknown for certain. Therefore the Hynix module can't be checked for compatibility. But as there seems to be a problem running this module, it appears this Hynix memory is probably incompatible, or it may be faulty.

Could try the Hynix module in another computer as a test?

I am thinking of giving your idea a try, i am on biostar G31 M7 TE V 2 motherboard. Can u tell me how to change the voltage. I cant find in bios settings.

I believe the point of Tradesman1's post was that IF the system works OK with the new memory installed by ITSELF, THEN increase the memory voltage a bit if wanting to use BOTH old and new memory. But, it appears from your first post that the new memory was already tried by itself and the system didn't work.

You could try increasing DRAM voltage in BIOS a bit to attempt to get the new memory to work by itself anyway. The memory voltage adjustment may be known as DRAM Voltage, DDR Voltage, or Memory Voltage etc. This setting may be located within a sub-menu somewhere in BIOS.

If there is no memory voltage adjustment setting available in BIOS, then there is nothing further that can be done to get the new memory to run on this system apart from trying the new (Hynix) memory in different slots.

The new memory may be incompatible, faulty, or maybe both. Could test the new memory in another computer as mentioned previously.
