Is it ok for my system to hibernate my computer during the night? I used to leave it on all night, but i just found out how to enable hibernation which i thought you could only do on win2k server. It wont end up frying my hard drive or ram or anything will it?

When you select hybernation over shutdown everthing is still turned off. The difference is that with hybernation the previous configuration (contents of ram)is saved to disk in the hidden file hyberfil.sys. When you power-up the next time the contents of hyberfil.sys are loaded into ram and you are back to where you where before. This is way much faster than a cold boot but there is a drawback. Don't make any hardware changes after a hybernation, you'll be very sorry you did.

Hibernation isnt going to damage any of your hardware. You must realize however that if you have your server setup for FTP or webhosting duties that of course they wont work during hibernation. Also, I have had a few problems after booting up from hibernation. Mainly I have found that my network is inaccessible and my internet connection doesnt work until I do a regular boot. Hope it works good for you...

Whats wrong with hardware changes during hibernation? Motherboard would probably be a no go, but things like network cards, sound cards, even graphics if it's not your primary display are ok. Do you know it's possible to plug in a new IDE(yes IDE not SCSI) drive while 2k's running and select 'scan for new hardware' and up pop's the drive with all it's partitions mounted. - This doesn't work on all IDE controllers, and I wouldn't try any of this stuff out on the company server.
