"It's also possible that there's a listing stub for the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which is also due out on Tuesday, but we were unable to find it."

Isn't the 7800X3D slated for April?

Yes, you are correct. This R7 SKU is launching in APRIL with a $449 USD price tag . We need to wait till the 6th of April.

It seems that AMD wants to target premium users first before they enter the market with the sub-$500 US mainstream X3D solution, as always is the case with any GPU vendor.

Having that out immediately would make it eat up the sales of the higher-end parts as is the case with the 5800X3D which has been the top-selling CPU at various retailers for several months owing to its unbeatable price-to-performance value in the gaming segment.

"There are rumors that the review posting date for these chips is February 27th. "

Why with the writing like this? Ooooh, there are rumors. Dude just stop. It's not like you don't have one and won't have a benchmark article up tomorrow as soon as the embargo lifts. You don't need to act like it's some big secret that you're not in on.

The motherboards will need bios update? Or will work out the box?

Some MOBOs will require a firmware/BIOS update, whereas some latest models will have support from 'out of the box'. In fact many board partners have started offering updated BIOS to support the upcoming X3D processors, some are in BETA status though, but they will have full support for X3D SKUs.

Most likely the AGESA 1.0.0.5c BIOS for X670 & B650 motherboards. ASROCK, MSI and ASUS have already started offering updated firmware BIOSes.

Meanwhile, ASUS also has a BETA BIOS which updates to the AGESA 1.0.0.5c firmware and adds support for the Core Flex feature for AMD Ryzen 7000 X3D CPUs.

MSI has also rolled out AGESA 1.0.0.5c BIOS for X670/B650 boards. SMU version has been updated to 84.79.218. Also a new feature dubbed as "Enhanced Mode Boost" has been introduced.

There are in total 3 profiles offered to boost 7950X3D/7900X3D performance. Following is the full description of the MSI AGESA 1.0.0.5c BIOS firmware:

  • Update to SMU 218 which has optimized performance for Ryzen 7950X3D and 7900X3D
  • New feature: Enhanced Mode Boost – MSI PBO profiles for better 7950X3D/7900X3D performance
  • New feature: High-Efficiency Mode for tight RAM timings and better RAM performance
MSI MEG X670E ACE, E-ATX, AMD Ryzen 7000 Series, AM5, 22+2+1 phase, DDR5 PCIe 5.0, 10G LAN, Wi-Fi 6E

BTW, the following is the SMU of the AGESA 1.0.0.5c BIOS firmware.

Kind of off topic, but did you guys see this review for a simulated Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU ? Kind of interesting. Gives more incentive to get this R7 SKU instead of the R9 X3D parts.

Tech outlet, TechPowerUp, managed to simulate the results of the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D by disabling the single Non-3D CCD of the Ryzen 9 7950X3D.
