Hide extensions and show hidden files

Hi everyone. I'm using windows 10 and bitdefender 2018. A few days back I noticed that all the extensions were being displayed along with my file names and I couldn't see the hidden files.
I tried to choose the option of "show hidden files and folders" & "hide known file extensions" from Views however I can't seem to apply it. Is there anyway to fix this? Without using any 3rd party software or completely uninstalling my BitDefender antivirus?

I would be curious why its happening and would take all steps to determine that. Then I could do a cost benefit analysis on the use of the errant app.
