Hi,

I have a small home network. The internet modem which is connected to a Wi-Fi router. My desktop PC is connected directly to the modem and mobiles & laptop to the Wi-Fi signal. I want to install a VPN for the entire network to encrypt and anonymize my data transfer. How can I do it pls.? I request you to pls. inform me of free services which are available for the purpose. I don’t want paid services as I don’t have anything sensitive to hide – just that I want to protect myself from unnecessary spoofing.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks and Regards,
Arvind Gupta.

It depends what you goal actually is. The encryption provided by HTTPS prevents anyone from actually seeing what you are doing on web sites. Part of the encryption ensures that nobody can modify or affect your traffic.
It will not of course hide traffic going to say a game server but those use their own encryption.

You have 2 issues with using a vpn. First your router must support it and very much related is that you want a free one. There are all kinds of issues using "free" vpn services. Many of these do not support router based vpn. Many force advertising into the data stream. The very worst offenders do things like mine bitcoin using your machine.

If you really want vpn there are many that are under $5/month...

Google chrome has a number of features that help hide things. They support proxy functions many of these are actually free. I have not used it so I can't say how well it works. The other new feature is it now supports encrypted DNS. DNS snooping is pretty much the last hole for seeing what you are doing and with the complaining you see from ISP about this feature it must work fairly well.
