So i just replaced a broken charging port on my K53SD Gaming Laptop, its rather old, more than 8 years.
I had to take the fan off the CPU to access the Charging port. so i bought some new Thermal Paste to reapply onto the heatsink before placing the fan etc back on.
Ive downloaded Speccy to check the temps and the CPU is rather high for just sitting on google chrome and a few other applications such as Steam.exe open.
is this normal? it is brand new thermal paste.

I done a benchmark test, it went up to 85 degrees.. not a game benchmark but an overall desktop performance.
With the laptop at completely idle, all applications closed and sat on desktop home screen the idle temp is at 50 degrees, with google chrome and several tabs open, the fan is running and it’s at 65-75..
I hate to think what it’ll be like if I start playing a game.

Cross-validate your temperature readings by HWinfo64,

"Sensors only" mode will do just fine.

is this normal?
For laptops - Yes.

Laptops have all the hardware cramped tightly into small space, thus there is little room for proper cooling. Due to that, almost all laptops run far hotter than desktop PCs, and that often at borderline thermal throttle levels as well.

Your CPU can sustain up to 100C,
specs: https://www.intel.com/content/www/u...r-6m-cache-up-to-3-50-ghz/specifications.html
(The Tjunction part.)

With CPUs, running below 80C is good. 80C to 90C is worrying. 90C and above is thermal throttle.

GPU wise, your GeForce 610M is rebadged GT 520MX. From what i was able to find, it can sustain up to 102C.
So, same metric as with CPU can be applied here as well; under 80C - good, 80-90C - worry, 90C and more - bad news.

When you say the GPU is a rebadged GT 520MX, so is the 610M the exact same as the GT 520MX?

This is my HWinfo at idle with only chrome open: https://prnt.sc/I0y1cauUuylC

Quick question, Is there anything in this PC i can upgrade? Can the RAM be upgraded to better? obviously i can probably by an Internal SATA SSD or upgrade to a bigger HDD. is that about it?

Yes.

~66C max on idle is normal for laptops.

Is there anything in this PC i can upgrade?
Little, if any at all.

RAM upgrade is listed here, whereby max what you can get, is 2x 4GB (8GB),
link: https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/asus/k53sd

As far as storage drives go, you can install any 2.5" SATA SSD into it, and not just the ones listed on Crucial site. Though, the MX500 is good, cheap SSD (i too have MX500 in use but mine is 1TB in size).

Other than these two (RAM and SSD), you can't upgrade anything else. And that's the issue with laptops, you're stuck with what they come with.
