High CPU Usage (99%) from Anti-Malware Service Executable

Hi there,

There have been many occurrences where my computer will start to freeze up because the AntiMalware Service Executable is taking up 60-80% of my CPU. When I open up Windows Defender and turn off Real-time Protection, the issue is resolved, but I would prefer to keep this on. I have never had an issue with this before.

Have you had this issue or found a solution? Please let me know.

No, I've never been a fan of anything besides Defender.

If it's McAfee, ditch it for something, almost anything, else. McAfee has become a resource hog in its endeavor to "protect" you in real-time.

As I said, I don't have any other antivirus software installed.

After some more testing, I have determined that this issue only happens when Minecraft is open.

sometimes windows defender get stuck on some bad definition updates.
you can use this method to fix:

CMD as Admin and typing (with quotes):


"%PROGRAMFILES%\Windows Defender\MPCMDRUN.exe" -RemoveDefinitions -All
Then
"%PROGRAMFILES%\Windows Defender\MPCMDRUN.exe" -SignatureUpdate
