High CPU Usage help!

Solution
well , check your CPU temperatures. if it is high it might cause throttling to lower frequencies

other than that ,if nothing works try formatting your system

Sorry, out of ideas!

PS- try unistalling AVG and or/ other demanding software and check if you have any bloatwares

In your first picture, avgnsa.exe, Steam.exe, and System are together using about 94% of the CPU. Avgnsa.exe is part AVG Anti-virus, Steam.exe is the Steam client, and System is a Windows process that covers multiple Windows functions, including disk access. Did you have a virus scan running or were downloading a game through Steam?

P.S. Bumping is unnecessary.

what is your processor?

and what are your temps? sometimes there might be throttling due to high temps which cause this kind of thing

generally all the tasks are managed by the CPU and so is the % of usage (PS- avg occupies a bit of mem)

and what version of windows do you have (those screenshots look old)

Hope it helps!

A bit weak? An 1.7GHz Dual-Core Celeron sounds really weak. But it shouldn't be a major issue though.

What I don't understand is that the CPU usage is 99% with Steam, AVG, etc on, but with everything off (minus Steam) it's still 90% when Steam is the only program using 19%.

That could be true but if you look at both screenshots the Task Manager is set up to show the processes that are using the CPU the most, hence why they are listed in CPU load order (46, 31, 17, 2, 1.... or 19, 5, 3...). Also the list seems to be scrolled to the upmost top where all the processes using the CPU should be listed.

However, the second screenshot shows the button that needs to be pressed to show all the processes, while the first one shows a checkmark instead.

My Windows version is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit
Not sure about the temp. thing though. If you mean by that the fan part then no, no problems at all.
