Approximate Purchase Date: e.g.: 10/3/14 or 10/17/14

Budget Range: up to ~$2000, it's a little ambiguous

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, Programming, Folding@Home

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: None, new build

Do you need to buy OS: Yes (planning on Windows 8.1)

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg.com is the only place I’m familiar with, but I’m open to suggestions

Location: Holland, MI, USA

Parts Preferences: I don't really have any, save for Intel for the CPU, and as before I'm very much open to suggestions

Overclocking: Maybe (I'm not terribly experienced with overclocking but I intend to play around with it a little at least with the CPU)

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe

Your Monitor Resolution: 2560x1440

Additional Comments: I'm hoping to have my PC run quiet and cool, but I suppose that's a given. I also like the idea of the parts maching colors, or otherwise looking nice together.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: My goal with this build is to have a machine that can run most any game at 2560x1440 for at least the next couple years with max settings. That and perhaps some bragging rights since I've been planning to build a high end machine for years and finally have the capital to do so.

That's a pretty good start, this would be a much wiser use of $2K IMO:

Thank you for the advice! I've only built one computer before this one so I'm trying to make sure I do my research and get opinions before I just buy parts. I was a little worried about the recommended RAM voltage (the haswell cpus are 1.5V and the RAM you recommended is 1.65V), is that not as big of a deal as it sounded? I've read conflicting testimonials so I'm not sure what to believe. Also I don't know much about SLI beyond that it uses two like graphics cards. Is there anything that I would need to know about it? Thank you again, this is really useful. I think I'll use your recommendations.

I have that same RAM on my Dark Knight build and it also is running an Asrock Extreme 6. The motherboard on default will run at the voltage it can handle. Only when you increase the voltage in overclocking will it cause the system to become unstable. SLI will use two graphics cards and will run at double the speed - so it's like having a Titan Black for the same price of a GTX 780 SLI setup.
