Hi there. My Pc is lagging suddenly after a clean factory reset, and it's on every game. The GPU is a new GTX 1060 FE and could run all games last year when I used it. I play farming sim 17 the most and that runs perfectly fine obviously, but now, even after the factory reset, the game lags a lot. What can I do?

Yes i did install the latest Nvidia driver. The factory reset also resulted in a clean install of the latest Windows 10 were I did the whole "first startup" thing.

It must have happened when the PC was turned off for a few months. Before that, all games were running fine on high settings, but then I booted the computer up again after several months of not using it. I came back to even the simple stuff like Farming Sim 17 lagging, even on low settings. That's when I did the clean factory reset since I thought that the 800gb of games and files were slowing the computer down. When the factory reset was finished, I only installed one game to test the computer and that was Farming Sim 17 and it still lags.. I have no idea on what to do..

Do you have a pre-built PC, or did you build it yourself? If it's a pre-built, the factory reset doesn't give you a clean install of Windows, neither does it give you the latest version of Windows. It gives you whatever version of Windows your PC had when you got it (although Windows will then proceed to update itself), plus whatever crap the OEM decided to install on your system.

Do you have Windows 10?

It's an Alienware x51 R2 with the original processor but new GPU as mentioned and an upgraded 16gb RAM. I'm just confused to why the computer worked fine a couple of months ago, and then, a couple of days ago when I just turned it on again, it suddenly lags. And I'm also wondering why it doesn't fix it to just spend 5 hours doing a full factory reset.

But yes it's Windows 10

I have no idea why it stopped working, but if you're going to go through the effort of wiping everything in a factory reset, you're better off just going the whole way and doing a clean install of Windows. It may even be faster than the factory reset was (I can install windows in like an hour or less I think, although it might take longer if you don't have an SSD).

Download all the drivers from the Dell support site for your PC and store them on a flash drive or something prior to doing the install.

I'll give it a go, thanks :)

MERGED QUESTION
Question from CarlosF : "Good spec high-end PC still lagging after factory reset (windows 10)"

I did the complete reinstall, but with no luck. The game still lags and bear in mind that the only programs i've gotten installed right now are steam and farming sim 17. And the nvidia driver ofc. Still. lag. I've gotten no clue whatsoever.

I don't know how to check temps. Would I have to download MSI afterburner or can I check it without? Full specs are:

I7-4770
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 Founders Edition
1TB HDD
16GB HyperX Ram

Not sure about the clock speed of the CPU, but I thinks it's 2,4 GHz. I'm at work now so I can't check it.

Well, somehow it works now. Forza horizon 3 runs incredibly smooth on high settings, never dropping below 60fps. Farming simulator works as well, and I'm yet to test the rest of my games. Thanks for the help :) I'll see if I remember to post some temp data when I get home later.
