(thread has no affiliation with my other thread.)

Hi guys,

I have an ANTEC Truepower Quattro 850w PSU and when PC powers on, the PSU fan kicks into high gear from the start.. has anyone encountered this before? Is it likely an issue within the PSU ?

I honestly don't think it's the fan directly, as the fan speed would be controlled via the psu? (i.e. start of low speed, increase speed as temps increase?)

I've listened to the other fans (CPU and GFX), neither of which sound loud nor start revving at high speed.

Also, anyone happen to know when the TPQ850w became discontinued? I think it has 5yrs warranty and I 'think' it might still be under warranty..just (have to dig out receipt).

Thoughts?

Apparently it's no longer seen on Newegg which also means it's no longer in production. It's possible that they are yet being sold from old inventory by your seller. Now for the fun part, your system looks like it's more than a few years old, how long have you had the unit for in that system and speaking of system's can you please list your innards?

Is it safe to assume that you recently changed your hardware(even on a minor level)?

Hi Lutfij, thanks for the reply :)

parts in system are,

CPU - i7 2600k

Cooler - Coolermaster Hyper 212X

MOBO - Gigabyte Z68XP-UD5 (Rev 1.0)

RAM - Patriot Viper Xtreme 8GB kit (PXD38G1866ELK)(1.65v)

HDD #1: Kingston SHFS37A 120gb Hyper X Fury SSD (with O/S installed)

HDD #2: 1TB WD Caviar Black WD1001FALS

HDD #3: 2TB WD Caviar Green WD20EARX

GFX Card - SAPPHIRE RADEON 7970

PSU - ANTEC EDGE 650w

O/S - Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit (fully updated I think)

The Antec TPQ-850w in question was originally powering the above cpu, mb, ram, gfx in the system before having the fan issue, then was replaced with another PSU. Only recently I decided to look into the PSU issue & possibly RMA it if still within warranty period.

Unfortunately I couldn't tell you what other parts were in there (inc. the hdd's).

I would connect the 850w again to use to see if anything changes, but I can't find the modular sata power cable for the PSU to power the HDD's. Unfortunately the modular cables from the Antec Edge have a different connector that plugs into the psu.

(Random Question: Do you know if other brand PSU's modular cables will connect/work in an Antec PSU.. ie.. corsair cables in Antec??)
