Question High FPS but the games aren't smooth ?

Hi!

Every game acts the same.
For example I have 300 fps in Rainbow Six Siege but it doesn't feel smooth
In Valorant, I have from 290-400 FPS, but as I said above, it acts the same in every game. Not smooth.
When I lock the FPS to 240 FPS, it's buttery smooth, but I can feel the delay (Latency).

One of my old friends PC was almost identical to mine. His PC's CPU and RAM was way worse than mine, but his games were ALWAYS buttery smooth. (He had a 280hz monitor)
My specs:

CPU: I5-11400F
GPU: GTX 1660 Ti
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR 3600MHz
MOBO: ASUS B560M-PLUS WIFI
Monitor: AOC 27G2G8 (240 hz)

Can you run userbenchmark and share the public link to the results. Sometimes it helps highlight something that isn’t right.

I have a 240Hz and it is smoother than my 144Hz I ran for a few years and still use as a second monitor.

I don't know why Background CPU is 11%, because literally nothing was open, just the User Benchmark tab

Everything else looks good but 11% background usage is a little bit high if you had allowed Windows to finish loading. Have a look in Task Manager and see if you can see what’s running.

I was looking in Task Manager, but nothing used the CPU, nothing was open.

I suspect your friend's machine was smoother... Because he had a higher refresh rate monitor, and you're clearly super sensitive to that.

Is he still around? Being your PC to his place and try his monitor.

Yes, it could be frame pacing or other internal latency issues as some have suggested, but it also might be that simple.

I once tried it with my PC on his monitor, but wasn't as smooth as for him.
We aren't friends anymore.

Yeah, and it's buttery smooth in minecraft and only with a specific client (Badlion), but only in minecraft (1500-3000 fps), nowhere else.
It was good in R6s for a week, but then it didn't work as it supposed to. So, it's not smooth

I updated to Windows 11, I hope everything will be better.

I know what you mean, this was fixed for me by turning off hardware acceleration on everything i could. My browser (google chrome), my discord, everything. And also checking “disable fullscreen optimizations” on every game i play. And it was so much better.

It's always bizarre reading these sorts of comments, given that's exactly the opposite of what should happen when you do that.

How should it be the exact opposite? It seems these things were using GPU resources or whatever it uses even while the program isnt being used. Im just curious by the way.
