I have a 1070 founders card in a meshify c case with a 140mm, 120mm intake fans in the front with a 120mm outtake. My hi100 v2 set to outtake as well. I'm hitting 82/83 C on some games. Any ideas how to drop the temp?
I finally found a solution to this. I already had a program called CAM and found a way to do fan curve through this. I'm now hitting a max of 60 C in Monster Hunter World. Thank you to everyone who replied.
It's a bit high considering your cooling solution, but otherwise it's within normal operating parameters. A 1070's maximum operating temperature (per Nvidia) is 94C. So if you're only hitting the 82C - 83C range under very heavy load, then it should be just fine.
If you're still worried though, reapply thermal paste and lean towards the generous side when applying.
Like Urzu said - 82c is not too high a temperature.
To bring it down further you can alter the fan curve in MSI Afterburner to make it spin faster at say 70c which will control the temperature rise more.
This will have the downside of extra noise especially if it has twin fans.
The other option, which I did on my PC, is to install a small 80mm case fan underneath the GFX card mounted on the spare PCI blanking slots.
Set it to INTAKE for direction and not EXHAUST.
You are then feeding cooler air to the GFX card directly.
My temperature on my GFX card went from 74c to 63c during heavy gaming.
My PC case isn't that large so the GFX area was a bit small with a slightly restricted air flow.
It does alter the air flow balance internally as usually you have 1 exhaust fan but I also have a side case fan set to INTAKE blowing cooler air over the CPU and power pack and an EXHAUST fan at the rear in the same area.
The grille for this side fan doesn't extend over the GFX card on mine though hence the restriction in a cooler air supply for it.
Also mounting this fan in the PCI slots opens up a gap as an 80mm fan has space around it after mounting it to the case so potentially more dust is sucked in.
Routine dust cleaning and standing the PC at least 6 inches off the floor helps to minimise this.
If you can fit a slightly larger one in then even better.
I wondered if it would be problematic installing this fan in that location as obviously the GFX's exhaust is directly above the additional rear case INTAKE fan.
It must draw some of that exhausted heat back in but the temperature decrease to the GFX card is very substantial so it's obviously negligible.
