High idle with Hyper 212+

I have a Phenom II 965, and with the Hyper 101 it idled about 40c-45c and up to 65c under load. Realizing these were crappy temps, I purchased a Hyper 212+. To my disappointment, my idle temps were THE SAME. My idle temps are still at 40c-50c. I reapplied the thermal paste about 5 times using the pea method and spread method with little to no difference in temps.

My CPU is currently clocked at 3.85ghz and 1.45v. I don't suspect my case to be the problem because I have excellent air flow/ventilation with 2 intake fans and 3 exhaust fans.

Here are my readings with HWMonitor and CoreTemp.

Thank you.

Do you have cool and quiet disabled or something? If that's idle, your cores don't need to be running at 3.8 all the time. My Phenom 6core runs at 800mhz unless under load, then the cores start to ramp up.

Do you have any case fans, good air flow, etc? Adding a new cooler on a chip isn't magically just going to make it run super cool at idle temps. The chip runs how it runs. What are you under loads temps like? thermal paste also takes time to "cure".

I've tried it with CnQ enabled and disabled with no difference. I also mentioned that I have a good case with lots of fans and air ventilation. My load temps go up to about 55c when playing BF3.

Ya, don't worry about idle temp. If load temp is 55c with BF3, that's fine, especially being an older OC'd CPU that's know to be a power, and thus heat monster.

Idle temp can be all over the place but you're only going up to 55C only a full load, that's good.

Thanks for the replies. I'm just a little disappointed because I didn't get the temps I was expecting from all the reviews. I have a feeling that it's the way I pasted the thermal compound, but the pea and spread method give me the same results.
