High latency and low download speed

Hello, I have recently been experiencing very bad internet latency and download speed. I game quite a lot and its annoying when the lag jumps from around 70-80 to over 1000. Watching streams also is difficult due to low download speed. Doing a few speed tests, I am told that I get around 600ms. Upon doing a tracert on cmd, I find that there is a significant lag spike in the connection between my router and my ISP. What may be the cause of this and what can I do?

PS. I share my connection with my family but it seems to make no difference whether they are on or not

Make sure all your cables are connected securely on the router. Have you contacted your ISP?

What are the test results if you connect via ethernet cable to your router?

Thanks! I have already called my ISP's technical support, they say that I am losing around 10mbps worth of data, and thus will be sending a technician over.
