My NetComm NF10W is experiencing latency/ping spikes every roughly 5
seconds. During unending ping tests it occurs on exactly every 7th ping.
For future reference please know that I am an IT Systems Administrator and
Network Administrator.
I have performed a very large amount of troubleshooting on multiple
devices, internally and externally to the network, and have isolated the
issue to the NetComm NF10W.
I have performed a factory reset; the issue was still present.
I have also used a spare modem-router in its place and the issue is not
present.
The issue is present on WiFi or ethernet cable and occurs if I directly
ping the router or ping another device on the network.
I am 100% confident the issue is with the NF10W.
It should be noted that the NF10W works fine otherwise: download/upload
speeds (internet) and transfer speeds (local network) seem to be nearly
unaffected; but media that requires a constant connection (online gaming,
video conference hosting, etc) has a very noticeable 'lag spike' making
these extremely unpleasant to use or simply unusable.
Is there some default option or service in the router settings that causes
some sort of processing or data restriction every 5 seconds? It just seems
very odd to be faulty and affect the network precisely every 5 seconds. Anyone experience this?
If I don't have a solution soon I will have to return the item as it was
recently purchased.
