High overclocking DDR3 VRAM

Ok so here is the thing. I have a DDR3 Radeon 6670
It is very starved for memory bandwidth so I experimented with overclocking

I managed to push the VRAM from a stock of 667MHz to 800MHz (20%!)
with no crashes and I didn't see any artifacts.

The framerate was increased nearly proportionally even with the core at stock

But this thing has no VRAM heatsinks and after running the 3 minute Unigine Valley
the VRAM chips measured ~55c on the surface according to my infrared therm and they
were uncomfortable to touch.

So I guess the question is overclocking the memory that high safe?

Solution
well, what are the internal temps of it? as long as it is under 80c it is ok, but try to keep it under 70c. i, too, have the 6670, but its the gddr5 version. i overclocked it by 20%, both the core and vram, and under furmark stress test, it maxed out at about 65c i think. i dont run it that way though, as i am currently being bottlenecked by my cpu so overclocking the gpu does nothing XD
