high performance power plan for laptops

hi i just got my first gaming laptop. On my desktop I would leave my power plan on high performance and not worry about it, but on my laptop I am afraid to leave the power plan on high performance because of the impact on battery life. Is there a way where I can make my laptop automatically set to high performance when charger is plugged in and battery saver when unplugged without having to manually change it each time? any help would be great, thank you.

In Power Options on a laptop there should be separate configuration settings (side by side) for when running on battery power (not plugged in) and running off mains power (plugged in).
