Hi,

All I would like to know is how to figure out where each hop is located, since googling it only seems to give me the middle of the Atlantic Ocean....

I have had a tech come to the house several times and tell me that the issue is in my router (Nighthawk R6700) and he won't listen to me when I show him hundreds of "tracerts" the show the ping jump in the same spot time and time again (he just doesn't want to check the boxes).....

Here is one of my better ones (sometimes the ping can get upwards of 500+):

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 10.0.0.1 (Router)
2 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 192.168.0.1 (Modem)
3 116 ms 109 ms 113 ms 10.224.64.1 (always jumps here)
4 112 ms 80 ms 83 ms 10.20.0.33
5 113 ms 111 ms 109 ms 10.20.0.221
6 44 ms 83 ms 79 ms 10.20.0.226
7 119 ms 127 ms 114 ms 10.25.0.34
8 122 ms 117 ms 111 ms 204.111.0.54
9 108 ms 118 ms 115 ms 216.239.46.250
10 72 ms 99 ms 86 ms 72.14.236.152
11 116 ms 84 ms 137 ms 209.85.243.116
12 141 ms 141 ms 127 ms 64.233.174.60
13 146 ms 104 ms 142 ms 72.14.234.55
14 * * * Request timed out.
15 101 ms 110 ms 112 ms google-public-dns-a.google.com [8.8.8.8]

Trace complete.

Could this be the transfer box on the side of my house, or the server for my ISP?

I also have lowered download and upload speeds due to this:

Thanks for your help in advance!

Solution
It depends what type of connection you have. This is not a uncommon speed for wireless broadband. If it is dsl or cable then the ISP need to come and check out your connection.
The reason for the high ping is most likely because of your internet connection. 2.61Mbps download and 0.64Mbps upload is very slow.

Unfortunately, once a trace route goes beyond your modem, it's completely out of your hands and is using the speed provided by your ISP. Given your slow download and upload speed, it's natural that the ping will be high.
