I was playing a game and had high ping of 700<, so I went on the internet to look for a solution. I disabled windows updates but that only reduced my high ping to 600<.
I later did a speed test on google chrome, and I had a high ping of 600 even on chrome! I also did a speed test on my phone, which gave the same results. I have a Windows 10 with an Ethernet cord.

Solution
How fast is your internet connection. Could you be overloading the connection.

If you hook a single pc to router via ethernet and run speedtest and you get high pings you likely should call your ISP. Turn off the wireless if you can but make sure no other device is using your internet connection.

There is a small chance something is wrong with your router but it is much more likely that there is something wrong with the ISP connection.

Still in most cases you do not get delays you get data loss. This would mean you would see ok ping times but very low transfer rates.

Now this is assuming you have DSL or cable or fiber or some other form of physical media. If you are using satellite or any form of wireless for your internet it...

I agree with bill that the most likely scenario is one where the problem is on the ISP's end. But I wouldn't dismiss the possibility that there could be a problem with the router. I suggest trying a different router if you have access to one or try doing a factory reset (BE CAREFUL though, depending on what your router's default settings are, there may be a possibility of losing access to your router. So I wouldn't recommend this if you don't know how to configure your router).

just started having same issue as you within the last week.
spent 460$ on a new router and modem
ive had 3 cox (isp) techs out to my house
no luck...

just random spikes... ill go from 7ms to 280ms randomly...

will let you know if i find a solution....
