High pitch squeal from videocard when NOT under heavy load

Hello,

To replace my nvidia 950GT, which produced a high pitched squeal when NOT under any load, I bought a Gigabyte 1050 Ti. This card had exactly the same problem. A high pitched squeal that stops as soon as World of Warcraft is loaded. So as long as I have a gmae loaded the squeal has gone and stays gone. But the moment I end the game, the squealing starts again.
I replaced my PSU, hoping that that would help, but it didn't. When I use photshop, the squealing is still there, although PS is quite demanding on the GPU. So... assuming there is nothing wrong with the videocard... any ideas about this?

Thanks in advance,

Michel

Hmm. Well my first thought is you are not using the windows aero theme which will apply vsync at the desktop and cap fps to your monitors refresh rate, if you are using the basic theme there is no vsync so the GPU will pump out as many frames as it can on the desktop. Coil whine tends to intensify the higher your framerate gets, so if you are pushing say 1000 fps on the desktop you will get coil whine. You can have 100% gpu load in a game however if you are only say pushing 60fps then you are unlikely to have very much coil whine, which is why I think the coil whine stops when you load up the game.

Thanks for your reply. I have the standard windows 10 theme running and I read somewhere that windows caps fps to 60 if the monitor is 60hz. But the problem is solved. I got hold of a videocard that was garantueed without squeal and installed that in my computer. The squeal was still there, so alas... the motherboard is the culprit. Which means buying a new cpu, memorysticks and mobo :-(
