High pitch squealing coming from case fan(s)?

When I go into the bios and set the fans to DC instead of PWM, the fan speed increases and the squealing stops. I've never used a bunch of case fans before, so I'm unsure what might be causing it?

No wires are stuck in fans. When setting them to DC, the LED brightness increases, so I'm wondering if it's an electrical issue? The squealing gets quieter as the fan speed increases - it's continuous (been going 10 minutes now).

Any ideas?

Would that be the issue for (all 7) brand new case fans? at 100% speed there's no high pitched 60-70dB whining, only when below 80-90% speed. It's only doing it when the case fan controller is connected to either CPU Heatsink, or CPU OPT. If I connect it anywhere else all the fans sit at 100% speed and it's slightly quieter than the whining sound.

'' Would that be the issue for (all 7) brand new case fans? '' guess not . that would be some bad luck if all were defective some how ??

I could see one having a bad bearing or dry and doing that and that would be still unlucky , but all 7 ??

I guess you could risk pulling one out and give it a drip of lube to see ? if it don't help then maybe ask the case or fan manufacture . you did not say if these were afternmarket fans you bought to add in or fans that came in the case

'' the fan speed increases and the squealing stops''

that seems kinda backwards you would think if the fans were over revving or something faster speed % would make it worse ??

don't know ??

Yeah, I connected one at a time, and they all made the same noise - sounded like it was being emitted from the general area of each individual fan. I'm using an Enthoo Primo PC case, Corsair Air series fans 2x120 & 2x140, and three 140mm fans that came with the case.

They only make the sound when connected to the fan controller built into the chassis, and only when said controller is connected to the "CPU Heatsink", or "CPU OPT" - both of which appear to regulate the case fans according to CPU temperature. If I stress the CPU, then the case fans increase speed and stop making the noise temporarily. If they're set to DC, or connected anywhere else, then they sit at 100% speed and don't make the noise... but the 7 fans at 100% is pretty damn loud even without the high pitched whine.

It sounds very similar to the 'continuous' beep code one might hear during boot if there's a problem, just higher pitched.

To me it seems the common denominator is the fan hub. It seem quite a few users have had problems figuring out how it works. Phantecs have a forum on their homepage with a sub section for fans, and there is where I would start searching for a solution.
