I hope someone can help me out here. I recently built a new computer and have only been using it for about a month. I have noticed that it is not running quite as fast as is was when I first built it. The first thing I checked was how many processes were running and at any given time its running between 40-60 prcessess. the ram usage usually stays around %25. Those numbers have got to be slowing things down. I shut down the few processes I recognize but most appear to be system related. Any advice as to decrease that ram usage? My specs are...
Win 7 64
i7-870
Asus P7P55D Pro Mobo
4 gigs ddr3
Gts 450 vid card
Thanks to anyone who can help.

Disable the 'Start Up' crapware; less is more. Run MSCONFIG and look what's running. 25% for 4GB isn't out of the ordinary nor is 40~60 processes.

HDD's fragment; you can turn-off the Virtual Memory, run MSCONFIG select Diagnostic ->boot and Defrag you HHD {don't defrag an SSD - ever}. Reboot -> Turn-on VM and set MSCONFIG as you see fit and boot again.

win & normally uses a huge a mount of RAM for its own processes

try to stop any thing you are doing

and check the RAM tab in resource monitor to see what process takes all the space

you may also try a program to clean up the memory
like memory monster or something :)
