Hello! Ive recently stumbled upon an issue with my pc, im using 16gbs at the moment and with only 2 things open (discord and chrome) its using up approximately 12.8 gbs. I have run multiple scans using malwarebytes and windows defender (i did manage to find 1 thing that was cleaned from my pc in which my ram dropped to the normal usage rates, but it has spiked back up as of 2 days ago) and all my drivers are updated to the latest verion that im aware of. im hoping someone can help me, this is my last option before i just reset my pc.

Just a quick edit here, after updating my Killer internet drivers it fixed it a decent amount although its still running higher then normal at about 34% while idling.

So when you say that 12-13Gb is being used. What is it showing on task manager?

Because you said that Chrome and Discord adds up to 1Gb. Windows takes about 3Gb. So there is a background task somewhere that's secretly using your RAM (note that it could very well be 1 process split into millions).

Have you checked for malware? What are your CPU and GPU loads when idle?

There is nothing on task manager or resource monitor etc. I scanned through those closing everything I could and looking up everything on the internet and such, my cpu is at about 10% or so and my gpu is messed up atm which is obe of my other posts atm.

Clear your Chrome cache

Delete everything in %temp%

Run CCleaner, free version will get the job done (if you want to crack it i dont care)

Remove some useless extensions and favorites

Try checking your download history, it can be that you are downloading big files. But most high ram usage malware are results of an app that uses huge memory on background process even though you are not using it.

no change

Try closing various programs in the background that you don't use. Also, go the the "Startup" tab in task manager and close any programs that say "High" on startup effect. This should free up some RAM.
