[SOLVED] High reallocated sectors count on month-old Toshiba P600 - send back?

I recently purchased a Toshiba 1GB P600. According to CrystalDiskInfo it has a reallocated sector count of 100 after being on for 193 hours.
Is this a fluke or some particularity I'm missing, or this is really bad for a new drive?

If I should send it back, how do I explain to Scan (where I purchased it) that there's an issue?

Are you looking at the Current normalised value or the raw value? The Current value represents a "health score", so 100 is perfect.

The raw value is 00000000002E so 46. It's enough to panic CrystalDiskInfo.

I'm just running checkdisk on it.

that would indeed be a cause for concern on any drive with barely a week of total operation under it's belt.....

Consult with Toshiba and/or your seller for an RMA if possible...

I think SMART reporting may be broken in this model. The number of bad sectors is real, so one would expect that the Current value would be less than 100. It wouldn't be the first SMART bug I've seen.

Let the merchant or the maker figure out what is wrong with it.
