I have a View Sonic 20.1" flat panel VP201s that is capable of 1600x1200 resolution. It's hooked up to a computer that I recently built using an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe MB powered by a AMD Athalon XP 2700 and a Nvidia GeForce 5200FX w/ 256mb ram. The MB has 512mb of Corsair dual channel ddr ram. Power supply is Antec True Power 550watt. HD is WDRaptor 36GB for OS and programs and Hitachi 160gb for data.
Here's my problem. I hope you guys can help bc I here the Tom's hardware crowd are the best. When I originally built the computer with the above specs, (the exception being that I orginally ran all of it with an Antec True Power 430watt that I changed out) the monitor was successfully able to display at 1600x1200 w/o any probs. Looked and worked beautifully. Then, I mysteriously had a MB alarm pop up that stated that I had some freak power drop to all of the fans on my MB (cpu, chassis, etc) in addition to the 12v, 5v, and 3v. It was a momentary crash in power but the history graph showed that the power levels came right back up. Weird. It was after that point that I noticed small problems. When I would play videos in Win Med Player, the videos would have horizontal lines all over them and start cutting out. I decided to change out the card and when I did that & restarted, any display resolutions higher than 800x600 would result in horizontal lines streaking in from the edges that would get progressively worse the higher the resolution was set. At 1600x1200, the monitor would display a whole screen full of horizontal lines starting from the edges and going in and would cut in and out. Like I said, it progressively gets worse with each resolution setting north of 800x600. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers. I have even gone so far as installing a new Asus MB and new ram--no change. I also installed the new Antec True Power 550watt power supply in response to the weird power drop and I also plugged all of the equipment into a new APC 1100va UPS w/ voltage regulation. Everything was originally plugged into an APC 550va UPS w/o voltage regulation.
I've changed practically all of the hardware in my PC and I've uninstalled and reinstalled the proper drivers. Am I missing something or could this be a matter of my monitor (all of 3weeks old) going bad? I would appreciate you guys' help. This is frustrating.
