Hi, I bought the Adata SX6000NP 256GB Nvme M.2 ssd for my laptop which is an Acer aspire 5(2018 modle, i5 8250u, mx150 2gb ddr5, 8gb ddr4, 1tb hdd). I found that the ssd runs very hot. I understand that there is little or no air circulation inside the laptop where the m.2 slot is located. Even though it came with a heatsink i found that the temperature hovers around 62-63C on average when i keep the laptop on my bed and work. When it's on any surface(book, cardboard) or on my lap like as I'm now typing, the temperature has dropped to 52-55C. Should I be worried about such temperatures? Is there any way to control the temperature like reduce the power state of the ssd, or something as such? A screenshot from hdd sentinel is attached with the thread.

My Acers would run hot and suddenly shut down, especially during backup sessions, I have been using usb-powered & connected, external cooling fan assemblies (one giant fanor twin fans are fine). While Acers do run warm, they have not shut down.

Apparently most other ssds, samsung, wd & corsair has similar issues. I've read the reviews of adata before buying, almost everyone who's bought it for laptop has complained of high temperatures. Then again this was the cheapest there, and came with a heatsink.

You should change the thermal paste of your cpu heatsink in the laptop and clean the fans, if possible get a new one if it's too old. I applied noctua nth1 on the cpu, igpu and the dedicated gpu, and things run a bit cooler now in idle and load state. there's an average drop of 5-7C. I usually work, surf, watch videos keeping the laptop on he bed, which is the worst case scenario for any laptop. I play mostly retro titles like half life 2, mass effect original trilogy, igi, medal of honor, skyrim, hitman, san andreas, the low powered games, you get the idea, even though peak temperatures get up to 65-70C, keeping the laptop over a carboard or a book. If your laptop shuts down then that means it's running terribly hot. You should look into it asap.
