High Temperatures on Intel Core i7 4790k

I have had my Intel Core i7 4790k for roughly a year and a half to two years now. My cooler is the Corsair H100i V2 and my temperatures are reaching up to 82c. My temperatures at idle also have been going very strange over the past months and while idle reaching in the 40's to 50's. I have changed out my thermal paste numerous times and made sure everything is mounted correctly and nothing has helped it. My current case has two 140mm fans on the top in exhaust, one 140mm in the back as exhaust and my radiator mounted in the front in a pull along with a fan underneath it as an intake. Would it help moving it to the top and having it as an exhaust and then moving the 140mm's to the front as an intake? I am not sure what to do as I have tried everything. No shut downs or anything as temperatures have gone only to 82c so nothing "too" extreme.

It does help temps to have the radiator on the top, with fans blowing onto the CPU. But, if your case fans are spinning well enough at the top to provide that cooling, then it doesn't really matter.

check your voltage, it sounds like it's cranked up through the roof.

do you use the corsair monitoring app? Monitor your pump and fan speeds to see if your pump may be failing. Also can see what the difference is for performance setting and quiet setting. If you have changed the thermal paste I'm sure you have cleaned your radiator and it's fans but I'll say it anyway for others. What is the ambient temp in the room you use? Have those conditions changed? Also moving outer to a cooler spot desk/ floor may help.

That's what I use to check my temperatures. I cleaned my radiator and fans when I changed my thermal paste and my pump is at 2040-2070 rpm so it is still working.

I got a Z97 Anniversary motherboard. My PSU is completely fine since I only bought it last year and no signs of failure have been shown. I doubt it is the motherboard though and I plan on upgrading soon anyways in the winter when the new lineup comes so as long as this holds me out until then I should be fine.

Fans are spinning up fine, I check on them often.

Well from a true performance standpoint, if you can get your temps right. It wouldn't be worth the upgrade for you. I am also using z97 anniversary with Corsair h110i Hydro series. Stock speeds, I see a max temp of 68C when under load. Overclocked to 4.7ghz, I see a max of 82C.

Are you overclocked or stock ? These chips can also run a higher temps longer than other chips. Intel made them quite sturdy enough to handle high temps.

The 4790k overclocked to 4.6-4.7ghz will yield Intel i7 7700k performance.

I overclocked it a while ago to 4.4GHz stable at 1.17V and then one day my computer just shut off and continued to do so therefor I removed the overclock and have been running at stock every since. I have no clue why it's this high. I could replace my Corsair H100iV2 with my stock cooler and see if it is my cooler which is failing.

do your temps go straight up to those temps or do they gradually go up? If they go right up to those temps and stay there then your cooler is either running dry or clogged somewhere perhaps if all other sign show it running correctly.

Yeah, I have a 4790K, and from experience I can say that it does run hot. I've got mine at 1.31v at 4.8Ghz and it takes 360mm worth of push-pull radiator to keep this thing away from 80+ Celsius.

I used to have a 240mm in Push config and when video rendering it used to reach 88c. No good!

The 4790K requires some pretty extreme cooling if you're running high OCs on it.

Nothing wrong with your CPU, it's just a hot chip.

Can confirm, as someone with the fastest 4790K on these forums (according to the stickied benchmark thread in the CPUs section), the 4790K does outperform the 7700K, I've personally beat a 5ghz 7700K at 100mhz lower.

I'm actually having a lot of trouble finding motivation to upgrade because this thing is so gotdamn fast. Get some 3200MHz DDR3, set the CAS latency to CL9, and you'll have a PC that will last another 5 years.
