High temps while playing Rainbow Six Siege

I upgraded my CPU to an X4 860K at the beginning of the year, and I didn't have the money for an aftermarket cooler so I'm still using the stock one. Earlier this week I bought Rainbow Six Siege and I've been playing it a lot since I did. When I first started playing the highest my temps reacher was 64°, and I was fine with that.

However, the other day my Siege crashed, and after it logged me back in instantly I knew that it wasn't a connection problem. So I checked my temp and it was 67°. Since the max is 80° I was a little worried but guessed it would still be OK. But after playing for a few hours it crashed again.

Since it crashed the second time I haven't played Siege (out of fesr of overheating and causing damage) or been on my PC at all (out of annoyance this is happening). I wanted to know if it was safe to play Siege again or to wait until I've bought an aftermarket CPU cooler?

Solution
I don't see it crashing at 70c I can see it having troubles and crashing at 80c though. Might have mentioned this already but make sure all drivers are up to date. But as long as the CPU and GPU don't get to hot you should have no issues with crashing. I'd recommend to uninstall and reinstall the game itself if the crashing persists while temps are low.
an x4 860k for r6 siege :/ That's very limited power for such a CPU demanding game I must say. But yes it is more than likely your temps causing the crashes. I'd say upgrade to Zen or skylake / Kabylake if you can later down the line or just get a $35 Cryorig H7 cpu cooler. That will keep it much cooler than stock.. Most AMD stock coolers are pretty garbage.

If you're at stock clocks, check that there isn't any dust on the heatsink reducing it's efficacy. Make sure the fan works still (that could be the problem too ya know), if you're overclocked, go back to stock, a stock heatsink isn't meant to cool an overclocked CPU.

Ok first off no I'm not overclocking and I don't need it for Siege. I get betweem 40-60 fps playing the game on high. Second I know the fan still works because it's extremely loud, thirdly I'm aware the X4 860K only meets the minimum requirements but I had a budget, and I still do which means I can't afford a new motherboard and CPU (and I wouldn't do that anyway as I literally JUST upgraded). I have a Cooler Master Hyper 103 in mind but I'm broke so I can't buy one yet but I will be. My point is, basically I shouldn't play Siege until I get a new cooler for my CPU should I?

It's more than likely crashing your game when it hits 80c, Go into game play a terrorist hunt on normal lone wolf, play around etc while watching your temps. and see what it gets to before it crashes if it does crash. If it crashes around a high temp then it will be a temp problem. If not then it's something else.

Also how much memory headroom do you have while playing?

I mean how much RAM is being used while you are playing and how much is still available when you are playing the game? you have 8gb's of RAM which is okay, but nowadays I'd say its bare minimum. Open task manager and HWmonitor while you play put them on your 2nd monitor if you have one if not tab out and check it after like 5-10mins of play.

I did some tests while playing Siege using OHW to monitor my CPU temps and memory usage while playing Siege on both Terriorist Hunt and Multiplayer.

The results are:

Terrorist Hunt Lone Wolf:

CPU Temps: 56°-67°

Memory Usage: 4.6GB
Memory Left: 3.4GB

Multiplayer Casual:

CPU Temps 60°-67°

Memory Usage: 5GB
Memory Left: 3GB

Yeh the normal 50-60 fps (I'm kind of guessing here, I don't know the exact fps or really know the difference between 30 and 60 but it was playing like normal. Is it possible it crashed after peeking at 70°?

Solution
Ok will do. I did a check after the first crash and all my drivers were up to date. If it continues to crash I guess I'll have an urgent need for an aftermarket cooler and I'll find a way to get one, see if it helps

If the game crashes due to a game bug itself nothing, If it's crashing from temps it depends on the temps. CPU's are rated to run at 80c just fine with no worries its just you don't want to run it at 80c for hours on end. I wouldn't worry about any CPU damage unless the temp is extremely high. Before you buy an aftermarket cooler just do a test go play an hour online and check the CPU temps and the GPU temps, This could potentially be a GPU problem as we have no idea what the temps are.

AMD stock coolers are known for being loud af so don't think its the CPU's problem the Cpu wont ever make any noise xD But yeah for sure check those temps tomorrow and report back here with the information and we will see what needs to happen. Worst case scenario is you have to upgrade to a $20-30 CPU cooler, I'd recommend something from Cryorig like an h7 they are all wonderful coolers.
