So, I've been planning on buiding a PC for a while. Even though I know my fair share of hardware, I don't know that much about how I should build the PC.
My planned setup would be on the likes of this:
- i7 6700k/i5 6600k
- GTX 1060/1070/1080
- 16 Gb RAM
- SSD M.2 PCle 256 Gb
- Cooler Corsair H75
- PSU Nox 80 bronze 750W
- Motherboard Z170-A PRO/Z170-P D3

The rest isn't relevant
So, my goal would be gaming at 2k, 144Hz (games like Skyrim).

Thanks in advance

okay now first, you'll always want those 16Gb for gaming
second, the kaby lakes are a fucking disaster
third, 750W minimum for the psu
I do appreciate the answer :)

it's the new generation of SSDs, it's the 960 EVO
it has 3200mbps reading, so I'm pretty sure it'll make a huge difference with the SO and dealing with loading-intense games like Skyrim

the kaby lake processors are out of question :p
after some testing, I might even go with an i5 6600k overclocked

can I ask why 16gb is neccessary for gaming?

Because there are quite a few games that already require 7+ Gb

For 144Hz (100+ fps) an i7 6700k can give material gains over a 6600k in several games and its a trend that seems to be staying. At 60Hz/60fps there is no point in going for the i7 but for high Hz in modern games you really want the i7. If your spending all that money on a decent monitor and gpu the cost of the i7 over the i5 is insignificant and why not get the CPU that will allow your system to reach its max potential.

Also a good quality 500w would run any of those systems but I would go 600w as I like headroom, no point in making a PSU work hard. I don't know the NOX brand which instantly make me worry its a low quality unit. Make sure you research your PSU and get a high quality unit, wattage on its own is meaningless. This list isn't perfect but its a good start http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html?_ga=1.45879201.444711102.1480286851

A low quality PSU is a disaster waiting to happen, especially in a gaming pc which spends long periods of time under high load.

Well, won't the i5 6600k perform close to the base 6700k when overclocked?
With that H75 cooler, overclocking would be well handled

I'm pretty sure Nox isn't a bad brand, I might be wrong though
As to the power supply, I calculated it online and it reccomended the 750W
I might be adding some LED strips too

Well, for GTA5, Witcher, Skyrim and some other games, 8Gb won't be enough, to the point of 100% occupied RAM

Thanks for the link!
Well, Skyrim physics engines are messed up at above 60fps, so I was more focused on getting 100+ fps on games like Battlefield. Do you think an OC'd 6600k @4.0GHz won't cut it?

I'm going with the 16Gb, that's the sweetspot for gaming at the moment
Thanks for all the replies though, much appreciated :D

750w is bonkers, have a look at this http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-pascal,4572-10.html

The rest of your system won't take more that 200w, then the 200w for the 1080. As I said a good quality 500w would run it no problem. LED's use next to nothing power wise.

I cant find any reviews for a NOX 750w by trusted reviewer's. However other NOX PSU's seem to get a below average review. I really would go for a tier 1 on that list I linked.

What do you think about a Corsair 650W 80 PLUS bronze?

Yeah, I think the 6600k will definitely do the job!
Also thanks for all the links you've been providing!
