[SOLVED] Higher generation procesor on lower gen motherboard support

Solution
yes,but can i burn cpu like that
There's the potential that the pinouts between the CPU generations changed, meaning you run the risk of shorting a power delivery line to ground or something that shouldn't be receiving voltage.

Both are great ways to damage or kill a part.

EDIT: According to https://videocardz.com/73126/coffeelake-and-kabylake-lga1151-pins-are-different , the pinouts are indeed different to include more power delivery lines on Coffee Lake supported boards.

So trying to put a Coffee Lake processor on an earlier 1151 board won't work because it won't get the power it needs. And even then, it won't boot up because none of the Skylake/Kaby Lake boards know what a Coffee Lake processor is.

If the socket is physically compatible, it is likely protections were put in place in the case of the wrong processor being installed.

Still, if a processor is not supported, there is little reason to attempt to install it.

If you have already done this, what CPU and motherboard did you try?
