Higher monitor resolution = higher gpu temp?

I've just got my new Benq XL2730z monitor. it's 27" 1440p 144hz monitor.
I noticed my GPU temp runs higher than the previous monitor(LG 23MP75 1080p @60hz on idle around 39 - 42 degrees) on idle for about 45 - 47 degrees.
it increases around 3 - 8 degrees.
is it normal?

FYI this is my systems:
- Aorus Z270X Gaming 7
- Core i7-7700K
- Zotac gtx 1070 amp extreme
- Gskill tridentz 2x 8GB
- samsung ssd 850 pro 512 GB
- WD caviar black 2 TB
- WD caviar blue 500 GB
- Corsair RM 850
- Corsair H110 280mm

Idle has no real worth so long as the temps are acceptable.
Having a higher resolution monitor wouldnt really impact anything at idle (since nothing is happening)

But when it comes for gaming e.g. Overwatch, the GPU temp rises up to 70 degrees, the fan speed for about 40% - 50%.
I don't really think if overwatch needs more gpu usage for gaming.
is it also normal?

Those temps and fan speeds seem acceptable.

i've found the problem why my gpu temp raises up.
on the display setting i set the refresh rate in desktop (not in game) to 144hz(so both in games and desktop will run in 144 hz) so it cause my gpu clock raises up to 1063mhz
when i set 60hz in desktop, the gpu temp run back to normal and also the gpu clock go down to 278mhz.

That's pretty normal. Higher refresh rates and multiple monitors can cause your GPU to increase memory and/or base clocks to prevent problems with displaying to them. The temps are fine.

Thanks for your information, i think it's pretty not normal since my zotac amp extreme 1070 has a massive heatsink for the cooler.
But never mind as long as i know the problem.

A lot of the newer cards turn the fans off when idle, or below a certain temperature. So even great HSF's will get into the low 50's at idle in many systems.

It's not a problem. It saves energy and makes the system quieter.
