You'd be lucky if it lasts for long on the 124% imo.
Plus are you sure you are power capped ?
I have the 1060 it goes only up to 116% power and 99% of the cases i am voltage capped.
Higher tier cards hit their power limits way more often than mid tier cards. I have both a 1060 and a 1080...
If the manufacturer officially releases a BIOS update for a card and doesn't say it'll degrade the card. it should be 100% safe.
However OP, the extra power limit really is only for those who want to overclock for the fun of it and/or want to get the absolute maximum out of their GPU.
The performance difference between the max power limit you guys have now and the ones that come with BIOS is extremely minimal. You won't notice the difference in gameplay.
