Higher resolution needed than on-board graphics can manage

I have a PC running Windows 7, an AMD E-350N rev 1.0 with Radeon HD 6310 on-board graphics. I currently have a 17” monitor which I use at a resolution of 1280 x 1024. This works fine but I want to get a larger monitor and this is the highest resolution that the m/board puts out. Is it possible to install a separate graphics card to provide a higher resolution than I am getting from the on-board graphics? And if so, what does it entail?

Solution
recent built-in gpu's can handle higher resolution just fine, you are limited by what your monitor can handle.

please note that this does not mean you can play games at higher resolution without issues, but you can use your computer without any problems if it is just the higher resolution that you are worried about (but gaming is a different beast)

if you plan to play games, then you will need to upgrade/get a good gpu. also, remember that good gpu's need good psu
