What is the best single graphics card that will not be throttled at all by a i5 6600 cpu? It is for 60hz 1080p modern AAA gaming. gtx 1060 sounds like its enough for me but I am considering 1070+ only if I can maximize its potential (meaning even if its more powerful than I need right now, it generally does not get limited by the speed of i5 6600). Please state how many GB vram card model as well.

Current parts in build:
i5 6600 (not K)
16gb DDR4 ram
b150 gaming mobo

Haven't chosen yet:
ssd
psu
case

And how many watts power supply would I need for the combo? I am going with seasonic brand gold certified but not sure if I need 430w/550w/650w/etc.

Solution
Definitely.
The 6GB model features more CUDA cores, and a slightly higher clock speed I believe.
It performs a solid 10% faster.

The 1050ti will perform similarly to a GTX 960, while the GTX 1060 6GB will perform similar to a GTX 980.
Good choice on the i5, it was a good deal. :)
A 1070 is a tonne of extra money to flop down for only playing at 1080p 60Hz, unless you're going 144Hz, there's not much point.

Since you are locked into 1080 @ 60Hz, a 1060 is right up your alley. The 1070/80 would be nice, but you shouldn't notice any difference between those three. Now at 2K+ resolutions (or 144Hz monitors) you would notice the difference.

I second the 1060 for 1080p 60hz. The power supply depends on whether you ever plan on adding another card WHICH ISN'T POSSIBLE right now with the 1060 (doesn't support SLI). I would personally get the 550W in your case, but you could get away with the 430W if it's necessary.

1070 all the way..... NO QUESTION...... you may want to sli Later or maby change monitors in the next 3 to 4 years . it would be great with that processor...PULL THE TRIGGER AND GAME ON MAN!!!!!!!

seasonic is AWESOME... see rig in sig....

good deal on 750w

You only need 500w to power a 1070 i5 rig.
@OP, get the 6500, it costs quite a bit less and performs pretty much the same as the 6600.
Not worth upgrading unless there's $10 difference or something.
The M12II is about $49 from memory, and a 1060 would be perfect for 1080p 60Hz.

same reason that you have an 850w psu in your system... we go alittle big for possible future upgrades. its a smart move in case of a later gpu change

I have an 850w PSU in my system because I sometimes run SLI......
A 620w isn't going to allow for 1070 SLI.
Additionally, cards are gradually getting more power efficient, and it is not likely OP will upgrade until Volta, where efficiency will be much better in terms of power.

Thanks for the advice. Do you think the 1060 6gb is worth $50 more than the 1060 3gb? Will I notice a difference? It is in my price range

This is kinda offbase but how do you think the 1050 Ti 4gb would compare to 1060 3gb when it comes out? I guess I am confused by how much vRAM matters compared to other factors

Also do you predict that other gtx models will raise or fall in price after the 1050 releases? Or maybe there is no correlation

And lastly I guess gold certified doesn't matter much other than saving energy cost then? The 550w gold certified is $45 after rebate on newegg so it might be the cheapest option anyways. I don't want to dance on the bare minimum wattage line but I can't see myself ever doing SLI since it seems too much to buy both new mobo and 2nd card for it. I will probably have as many hard drives as I can plug in by the time I am done with this PC though so I need to keep that in mind maybe

As for the i5 6600 I bought it since it was $10 more than the 6500. Figured it was worth a cheese pizza. The K was another $20 on top of that but I opted out

I sorta wanna grab that 1070 but in my mind paying almost twice the price of my cpu on a graphics card makes me hesitate on how balanced my build is. On the other hand as soon as I ordered the i5 6600 I found myself thinking maybe I shoulda bought the i7 instead.

Building a PC is so stressful. Seems like theres some sort of computer hardware shortage or something these days too. Over the last 2 days I been researching parts and on both newegg and amazon I've had items sold out of stock between the time I first looked at the page and then deciding to buy it

I am glad you got, some answers.. my two builds were both stressful.. sorry my suggestions were bigger than you needed. I am a go big kinda guy. But I do believe you question was highest card to pair with i5 6600 . That's why I suggested 1070 but you cos even use 1080 but it's waisted on 1080p. Anyways HAPPY GAMING!!!
