Highest FX4100 OC on stock heatsink?

So i read online that the FX 4100 can be overclocked on the stock cooler to 4.2ghz and i have done so. I was just wondering how far do you think i will be able to push this puppy on the stock heatsink.. im pretty new to this also and i would like to know if increasing the multiplier is the only thing i should do to get better performance? (and increasing the voltage for higher OC's of course)

You must monitor temps less you want a fried chip. Keep it below 60ish on the cores.

Exactly right I would never overclock a CPU on with the stock heatsink; it is a good way to fry your CPU. Stock heatsinks aren't meant to and are not able to dissipate the extra heat caused but overclocking. You say you overclocked it to 4.2 GhHz but what are the temps, my guess is the CPU is burning hot.

Now according to a benchmarking site (can't remember what it was), some people have got it to 4.6 on the stock cooler. I wouldn't do that myself though. Get something like a Coolermaster Hyper TX3. That's a very good and cheap air cooler and that will get you up to 4.6+ easily.

Thanks guys, i do not have it 100% OC though (it varies between 2.x-4.2ghz), i figured that would be a little safer than 4.2 all the time. and thanks for the recommendation, there are a lot of cpu coolers on Newegg and its hard to know which ones perform outstanding.

31-41 degrees overclocked on the stock cooler..? Thats as good as aftermarket coolers. Either that is one hell of a stock cooler or somthing isn't righ with those readings.

Remember this isnt a constant 4.2 OC , it adjusts . I believe this is idle because i wasnt running any games

I am very confused. I turned off Cool and Quiet in my Bios and my CPU-Z says that my core speed is 4228 with my multiplier at 21. My temps are still the same in my hardware monitor, so is this stock cooler just baddass?? or am i doing something wrong? I would like to have a 24/7 4.2 overclock and I am not sure if that is what i have at this moment even with Cool and Quiet turned off in my bios

If you really want to overclock and keep the overclock settings you are going to have to get an aftermarket cooler to start with. Than you are going to have to overclock it and stress test it with Prime 95 for atleast a full 24 hours.

I got my system to go full speed at 4.19ghz. i increased the multiplier to 4.5 but as soon as a start prime95 i get a BSOD WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT, any help on that? btw with prime95 my temps max out at 45 degrees celcius when running prime 95 and my fan at 100% speed
