hmm...price isn't too shabby. (I don't think so at least) I was expecting a lot more.

Most mobo's have built in RAID controller's, but im sure this takes the performance to the next level, plus its SATA 3.0 6Gb/s capable. So let the flood begin with storage companies releasing their products. So we have something to hookup to this card.

If you were looking at SATA 6Gb/s, wouldn't the only items that could saturate SATA 3GB/s be SSDs - someone would have to want these in a RAID, I guess, to take full advantage.

The cards only have two sata ports, more drives can be connected through port multipliers (with reduced performance). Without any dedicated memory, and on a PCI-Express x1 interface, I doubt it'll be a world of performance. Just think about it: SATA 3.0 is 750MB / sec and the interface allows only 500MB / sec - this won't be the card to run something like the next generation of SSD's in RAID 0 - I guess it's targeted at the impatient, who need to be able to put "2 SATA3.0 drives in raid 0" in their forum signatures

HighPoint site says the 620 is 2 internal ports 622 2 eSATA ports, nothing else.

go for the LSI logic SAS/SATA MegaRAID 6Gb/s controller, Toms did a review and it got 3.4 GB/s read speed. The 8 port model is affordable for power users, animators, CAD professionals, GIS specialists or hard cord gamers looking to have reduced load times. But if you want speed ups, use a RAMDISK for your Pagefile or selective application based temp directories.

At that price point I would call it fake RAID. Real RAID costs real money and has a separate battery backup. Otherwise you are better off with software-based OS RAID that doesn't require you to buy a RAID card from the same manufacturer if it fails.

I just purchased this card and it works great with a couple WDC 10k 160GB SATA-II drives in RAID-0 running Windows 7.... HOWEVER - my PC won't "sleep". Instead, it just powers down. If I turn it back on it acts as if it lost power and wasn't shut down properly. Huh?

the maker sells many cards, 620 is basic and will never run faster than the pci-e x1 socket.
Read the spec on x1, for reason.
the reason above poster has issues, is your dirty bit is failing when windows shuts dow,n the last thing
it does is set the dirty bit in the pagefile.sys. at shut down,. then on reboot, if it is true (dirty) you get , that message (illegal shut down)
that fact will put you on the right track.
WD bundles this card with some HDD.
dont expect blinding speed.
unless
1: old mobo bios cant do sata 2 or 3
2: old mobo has on sata at all.
3: old mobo, like me has the nforce bug, where it can not speed shift to lower sata speeds. nforce560

if you expect this card to upgrade new mobo's you are sadly mistaken, that is not its purpose.

if doing raid, see the 640s etc. (im reading all SSD posts)

You get what you pay for! Imaginary increase in speed by SATA-III? Think about lagging BIOS time.
